"The World Is Turning" takes its title from one of the album's central songs, but the phrase also reflects the overall theme of the record. The world never stands still. Societies change, relationships change, people change and the challenges facing humanity continue to evolve. Throughout the album, Riven Earth explores different aspects of this ongoing process, looking at both personal experiences and global developments. As with previous releases, all music was written by Günter Schlünkes and Wolfgang Beckers, while the lyrics were written by Uli Krücken.

The Themes Behind the Album

Although the songs cover different subjects, they are connected by the idea of change and transformation. The title track, "The World Is Turning", reflects on a world that continues to move forward regardless of whether people are ready for the changes taking place around them. Technological progress, social developments and global events constantly reshape our lives, often leaving us with questions rather than answers. Other songs focus on more personal experiences. "You and I" deals with saying goodbye to people we love. Loss is one of the few experiences shared by everyone, and the song reflects the emotions that accompany separation, memory and acceptance. In contrast, "We'll Never Find A Way" turns its attention towards one of the defining challenges of our time: climate change. The song raises questions about humanity's relationship with the environment and whether we are willing to change our behaviour before it is too late. Together, the songs create a collection of stories and reflections that invite listeners to consider both the world around them and their own place within it.

Music and Songwriting

The music for "The World Is Turning" was developed through the creative partnership of Günter Schlünkes and Wolfgang Beckers. The goal was not simply to write individual songs, but to create an album that would allow different musical moods and lyrical themes to coexist within a common framework. Melodic passages, atmospheric arrangements and progressive rock influences combine to support the stories told throughout the album. As always, the focus remained on creating music that rewards repeated listening and reveals new details over time.

The Cover Artwork

The cover artwork was created by Willgard Krause, whose visual work has become closely associated with the world of Riven Earth. The image shows the musicians standing on what appears to be a distant planet. Above them, a zeppelin-like airship crosses the sky, creating a dreamlike and slightly surreal atmosphere. In the background, the Earth can be seen, continuing its endless journey through space. The artwork perfectly reflects the album title and its central idea. No matter what happens in our individual lives, the world keeps turning. Human beings experience change, loss, hope and uncertainty, while the planet itself continues its constant movement. The image became a powerful visual representation of the themes explored throughout the album.

Looking Back

"The World Is Turning" captures a particular moment in time while addressing themes that remain relevant far beyond its release. From personal farewells to environmental concerns and reflections on a rapidly changing world, the album combines progressive rock, storytelling and atmosphere in a way that is characteristic of Riven Earth. At its heart, the album is a reminder that change is unavoidable. The world keeps turning, and each of us must find our own way within that movement.
