Chapter 01
The Themes Behind the Album
Space Of Time is about change – the passing of time, hopes and disappointments, social changes and personal experiences.
Empty Street
The song explores climate change and the consequences it may have for our world.
The empty street becomes a symbol of a future in which familiar environments and certainties may disappear.
Do You Know
A personal song about a relationship that has reached a crisis.
Change is once again at the centre of the story – not on a social level this time, but in the lives of two people.
Small Town
The song describes life in a world where everyone watches everyone else.
Privacy disappears, and the feeling of being constantly observed becomes part of everyday life.
Chapter 02
Music and Songwriting
Like the other Riven Earth albums, Space Of Time grew out of the collaboration between Wolfgang Beckers, Günter Schlünkes and Uli Krücken.
Wolfgang Beckers and Günter Schlünkes developed most of the musical ideas.
Uli Krücken wrote the lyrics and gave the songs their distinctive character through his vocals.
Each of the three musicians contributed personal experiences and musical influences.
The result was an album with a wide range of moods – from thoughtful and melancholic to powerful and socially critical.

Upside Down
Upside Down is a song written by Uli Krücken.
Its lyrics explore the mind of a fanatic and show how dangerous religious or ideological extremism can become.
A glimpse into a world in which convictions become more important than humanity.
Chapter 04
The Cover Artwork
The cover of Space Of Time reflects the central idea of the album.
The old man standing in front of the enormous clock symbolizes the unstoppable passing of time.
Nobody can stop it, and nobody can escape it.
The photographs of the band at the famous “Zeitfeld” installation in Düsseldorf also fit this idea.
Past, present and future are connected – and every person moves through their own space of time.

Looking back, Space Of Time marked an important stage in the development of Riven Earth.
